A private archive of some 20.000 slides, inherited from a family friend who
had traveled the world, has been the starting point of Elshuis's photo-works.
Since 1999 Thomas Elshuis (1961) has explored this wealth of images,
composing, as it were, his own reality by use of digital techniques. His aim is to create a world in which time and place are uncertain elements, leading the viewer to illusory spaces. The ability to take the original image and remake it into a new form, with a new meaning, is both an understanding of what was and the creativity to turn it into something new. It reminds us of the fluidity of all life and the importance of flexibility in viewing life. |
